Belonging

Facilitator Information

Belonging is the joy we create around us. Belonging is the second class in the Thriving Recover Your Life series. Belonging is designed to follow either Forming or Restarting. Belonging blends the Forming and Restarting classes together and creates a particularly helpful blend for Belonging participation. Belonging is training and these 90 days require over 60 exercises during class and for homework.

*Prerequisite for Belonging is either Restarting OR Forming

Belonging is built around training and homework. Careful steps are taken to form training groups that provide encouragement, support and diversity needed to work on belonging skills. Groups are helped by “belonging coordinators” at each “round table” who receive additional support and training each week to help their group return.

Belonging was designed to produce transformation

Belonging was completely redesigned FOUR TIMES until we refined a training method that really worked. If you have tried the previous experimental methods, be prepared for something completely new in Belonging.

All real transformation changes: 1) where we belong and 2) how we create belonging around ourselves. Belonging focuses strategically on how to:

  1. Improve the ability of existing groups to receive new people.
  2. Help new people enter an existing group.
  3. Allow people with issues and disadvantages to create belonging around themselves.
  4. Heal and reduce the pain of previous rejections in our lives.
  5. Practice belonging skills in a safe environment with fun exercises.
  6. Learn and practice the two belonging skills that are most needed by people with histories of addictions and traumas.
  7. Develop and strengthen a personal style for creating belonging that you will really enjoy.

Belonging Personal Use License

The Belonging personal use license video has over three hours of teaching on two DVDs. This includes all the teaching topics and twelve lessons from the Belonging course.

  • What belonging is anyway?

  • Why do people like me?
  • How do I quiet my anger and fears?

  • Why are validation, comfort and belonging needed together?
  • How do I see myself as God meant me to be?
  • What causes my cravings?
  • Why isn’t my will-power going to be enough?

Join Ed Khouri in the high Sierra for an adventure in appreciation and a closer walk with God. See if you can spot where Ed had to stand on tarantula nests to tell his story. Watch for the chipmunks that join his lesson. The wonderful beauty of the mountains and creation are blended with Ed’s warmth, encouragement and stories. Ed turns deep and complicated truths into thoughts as clear as the mountain streams. You are going to be amazed!

Note: The Belonging personal use license DVD does not include the more than 60 group training exercises and is not expected or intended to replace a Belonging class with over 18 hours of training experience. This DVD may not be used to lead groups or conduct classes.

Belonging Facilitator Training DVD

The facilitator for Belonging does far more training than was the case in Forming or Restarting. Ed Khouri begins this double DVD set with a 21-minute overview of the objectives for facilitators and then provides well over two hours of instruction covering the more than 60 exercises in the Belonging training. You will see live demonstrations of two exercises that are as simple and fun as can be when you see them, but hard to follow when you only read the written instructions. While the instructions in the workbook are clear, in Belonging Facilitator Training Ed lays out the purpose for each exercise, problems to watch for and solutions to common difficulties. Ed’s sense of humor and love for this work make it enjoyable learning and essential training for every facilitator.
