Some recovery programs do not teach any skills or provide any deep healing. All you need to know is how to lead a group. Thriving is different. The basic point could not be more clear – if you have not learned the skills you can’t pass them on to others. Some trauma recovery programs do not build maturity but as soon as people learn about maturity they can see who has it and who could use some. Every program that really works is led by leaders with right-hemisphere relational skills but no program aside from THRIVE and Thriving identifies these brain skills and how they are learned. Few, if any Christian community building programs are created around joy. Most Christians, even pastors, do not know how to perceive the voice of God and about as few have ever received deep healing. You are about to guide people into this life-transforming experience. You do not need to be particularly good at any of these things but you must be healing, growing and maturing or it will show. Leaders who talk the right talk but don’t show the fruit are soon very uncomfortable. You will either leave, stop the growth of your group or they will leave you. This will probably happen amidst accusations, hurt feelings and questions about Christian doctrines but will actually be the result of the same old thoughts and feelings that keep people as stuck as they have been for years loading back into our heads.
